The average house price in Chesterfield in January, according to the latest UK house price index, was £173,520, against an England average of £266,532 and up 8.1 per cent on the average price of £160,554 in January 2020.

According to the Office for National Statistics, the median gross weekly wage for Chesterfield in April 2020 was £506, equivalent to an annual salary of £26,312 – the British average was £586 a week, or £30,472 a year.

It is no wonder renting remains popular – with gardens and space top of the wishlist for tenants.

Tom Parker, consumer spokesman with property website Zoopla, said: “Chesterfield has a range of properties for rent, with everything from spacious family homes to town centre flats available.

“Chesterfield, with its pretty town centre, and easy access to Sheffield and the Peak District, has a lot to offer renters.”
