Derbyshire family transforms home in spectacular salute to VE Day

A Derbyshire family have pulled out all the stops for VE Day by decorating their house with a model Spitfire and a "scarecrow” parachutist.

Claire Warriner’s house on New Road, Codnor Park, Ironville, is one of many homes garlanded with flags and bunting in honour of the celebration on Friday.

But Claire’s daughter Dione, 24, and son Adam, 30, have “gone a bit crazy” according to their mum with a coloured light display and patriotic images.

“Every Thursday we go out and clap for the NHS and and we were all saying we ought to have a street party,” she said.

On Friday, Dione will wear an inflatable unicorn suit to the party while Adam will sport a union jack costume.

“We always do something on Remembrance Sunday,” said Claire. “People stop to look and take pictures when they walk past!”
