The Coral gear up for YNot festival

Editors, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Madness are the big names on the bill for this month’s YNot.

Dozens of bands and DJs will be blasting out the tunes on several stages across the greenfield festival site at Pikehall, between Matlock and Buxton.

The main festival runs from Friday, July 28 to Sunday, July 31 but the fun gets underway on the Thursday night when Mercury Prize nominees The Coral headline the entertainment.

Merseyside rockers The Coral were put up for the Mercury Prize in 2002 for their self-titled debut album which was later voted fourth best album of the year by NME magazine.

Their eighth studio album Distance Inbetween was released in March this year, preceded by the first single from it Chasing the Tail of a Dream which came out on Boxing Day last year.

Ahead of their Derbyshire gig on July 28, The Coral’s frontman James Skelly took time out to answer questions:

Q. Have you played at YNot before?

A. No

Q. What can the YNot crowd expect from your performance?

A. A good balance of newbies, oldies and a bit of improvisation from a tight old school band, no click tracks.

Q. Which other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the festival and why?

A. I’d like to watch Noel and Blossoms but we’re not on the same day.

Q. Have you played anywhere else in Derbyshire?

A. I think this is our debut in Derbyshire.

Q. What do you enjoy about playing at festivals in England?

A. No cold meat and cheese in the dressing room.

Q. Are there any downsides? A. The mud.

Q. Are you playing any other festivals this summer? A. T in the Park,Beautiful Days,Corbridge Festival and Benicassim

Q. What are your plans for after the festival season? A. To do another tour at the end of the year in bigger venues.

Q. What have been the high points of 2016 for you so far? A. How well the album was received and being asked to support The Stone Roses and Public Enemy, two of our all time favourites.
