Award-winning singer Sam Lee heads for Derbyshire

The former burlesque dancer, professional forager, song collector, club promoter (The Nest Collective), teacher and radio host has also now toured the world.

His second album, The Fade in Time, was released last year to widespread acclaim equalling that of his debut, Ground of Its Own.

Lovely Molly, a song from The Fade in Time, earned Sam a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for best traditional track at this year’s ceremony.

He has learned his songs first-hand from the Gypsy-Traveller community. His unconventional and contemporary interpretations of the songs he has collected often challenge people’s perceptions of ‘traditional folk’ music.

Sam Lee and Friends will be performing at Buxton’s Pavilion Arts Centre on Monday, September 5, at 7.30pm.

BBC Radio 2 DJ Andy Kershaw will talk about his amazing life and career at the venue on Sunday, September 18, while the hits of Pink Floyd will be performed with remarkable accuracy in The Floyd Effect on Friday, September 16.
