Images from new book exploring history of Chesterfield to Sheffield and Rotherham railway line

A new railway history book featuring images of the route between Chesterfield, Sheffield and Rotherham will be published next month.

Vic Mitchell and Keith Smith’s latest volume is described as ‘an important contribution to local transport history’ and includes 120 previously unpublished photographs of the trains, stations and communities along the route through Derbyshire and South Yorkshire.

Chesterfield to Rotherham via Sheffield, due to be published by Middleton Press on December 5, features 96 pages of photographs, maps, timetables and stories about the line, sections of which began life in 1836 as The Sheffield & Rotherham Railway.

The volume is available from local bookshops priced at £18.95 or post-free from the publishers by emailing [email protected]
