Burbage Primary School is closed today and tomorrow for a deep clean after a parent notified staff that they had tested positive for coronavirus following a trip abroad.

The parent’s child attended school on Monday and Tuesday, after the half-term break, but the infected adult did not drop off or collect their child on those two days.

The parent has agreed to keep their child at home as a precaution and a deep cleaning operation at the school got underway today and is set to

continue tomorrow.

Parents have been told that the school is expected to open again on Monday, March 2.

In the latest message sent out to parents today, the school said: “We are now in a position to confirm that the parent has not entered the school site since their return from holiday.

“School remains closed for the rest of the week as a precautionary measure as cleaning takes place.”

Earlier today, the school confirmed that the parent concerned had recently returned to the UK after spending a holiday abroad in an area affected by coronavirus.

The parent advised the school last night that they had been confirmed as having contracted the virus.

School bosses said they closed the school as ‘an independent decision’ taken as a ‘duty of care’ to pupils, staff and the wider community.
