Jack, who inspired many with his continuous efforts to raise thousands of pounds for charity, was one of the UK’s oldest men when he died aged 108 on Saturday, April 25.

The residents of Hollingwood have now decided to say goodbye in their own special way by arranging a clap for Jack which will take place at 8pm tonight (Sunday April 26).

One of the organisers, Leann Bradbury, said: “In memory of a true Hollingwood legend, this evening at 8pm we would like to set off a few fireworks at the Hollingwood (as we know people have pets and we don’t want to upset them).

“We hope the residents of Hollingwood will join us in clapping at that time for Jack Reynolds. He was a true inspiration at the age of 108 who still continued to raise thousands of pounds for charities. We hope this is okay with our residents and that you will all join us in celebrating this huge hero.”

Jack, of Hollingwood, first captured hearts when he completed the charity ice bucket challenge dressed in nothing but a pair of Union Jack boxer shorts six years ago.

For his 108th birthday – which he celebrated on April 6 – Jack raised more than £1,600 on an online JustGiving page for Derbyshire charity Helen’s Trust, which had been helping to care for him at his home in recent weeks.

Speaking to the Derbyshire Times earlier this month, Jack’s daughter Jayne Goodwin described her father as her ‘hero’. She said: “My dad is one of the bravest, selfless and inspirational men ever.

“He took everything in his stride and fights each hurdle without complaining. He has been my hero for as long as I can ever remember.”

In a Facebook post, Simon Parker, said: “RIP Jack Reynolds. Hollingwoods 108-year-old passed away yesterday. Heaven has gained another angel. Condolences to the family.

He leaves behind his children, eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
