Covid-19: Six more deaths in Chesterfield as UK records deadliest day since pandemic began

Coronavirus has claimed the lives of six more people in Chesterfield in the deadliest day for the UK since the pandemic began, the latest NHS figures have revealed.

Six further patients being treated for the deadly bug passed away at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, according to the latest data published today (January 8).

It brings the total coronavirus-related fatalties in the town to 223.

It comes as the Government confirmed a further 1,325 coronavirus patients had died across the UK- the highest number of UK deaths reported on a single day since the outbreak began.

Nationwide a further 715 people who tested positive for the coronavirus died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 54,445.

Patients were aged between 30 and 101 years old. All except 23, aged 45 to 99 years old, had underlying health conditions.

The date of the deaths ranges from December 15 to January 7 with the majority being on or after January 5.
