The new restrictions which come into force on Saturday do not affect Derbyshire directly, where Tier 2 rules continue to apply in Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, Erewash and parts of High Peak, with Tier 1 regulations in force elsewhere.

But lots of people in Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire regularly cross the border to work, shop and visit friends and family, and they want to know if they can continue to do so.

People are advised by the Government not to travel into or out of ‘very high alert’ Tier 3 areas, which will include South Yorkshire.

However, they can continue to do so for work, education, to access youth services and if they need to do so because they are caring for someone.

And people can travel through Tier 3 areas where necessary as part of a longer journey, or when going to an airport, port or international rail terminal to travel abroad.

North East Derbyshire MP Lee Rowley provided further clarification after revealing that lots of his constituents wanted to know what it meant for them.

Similarly, if a grandparent living in Rotherham looks after your child, that can still happen within an established childcare bubble,” he wrote.
