The number of Covid cases recorded in every area of Chesterfield amid concern lockdown is not working in East Midlands

New figures reveal the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in every area of Chesterfield amid concerns lockdown is not working as well in the East Midlands as elsewhere.

Although coronavirus levels are still decreasing across much of the UK, there are hotspots that buck the trend and the East Midlands has been revealed as one of these.

England's deputy chief medical officer, Prof Jonathan Van-Tam, said last week: “In some parts of the UK, case rates are changing, albeit slowly, in the wrong direction.

"This is not a good sign and reinforces the fact that I'm afraid this battle at the moment is not won."

A spokesperson for NHS Derby and Derbyshire CCG said: “Reducing infection rates is vitally important and our efforts to follow government rules and guidelines are making a real difference.

"Together we are reducing the spread of coronavirus in Derbyshire but there’s still work to be done."

These figures covering the period of February 13 to 19, have been released by Derbyshire County Council in its weekly Covid-19 Surveillance Report.
