Seven-year-old among latest UK coronavirus victims as Chesterfield deaths increase by six

A seven year old child is among the latest UK victims of coronavirus, new NHS figures have revealed.

NHS England said there had been another 630 deaths from Covid-19 in the UK – with the youngest just seven.

Locally, another six deaths were recorded in Chesterfield in the 24 hours to 4pm on Wednesday, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related fatalities at Chesterfield Royal Hospital to 327.

Three deaths were confirmed on Tuesday, while a further three were confirmed yesterday.

Their families have been informed.

As of Wednesday, 10,490,487 people in the UK have received their first dose of the vaccine.

Vaccine deployment minister Nadhim Zahawi has said the country remains on track to offer a jab to the top four priority groups by the middle of this month.

NHS England data shows the total number of first Covid-19 vaccine doses given in Derbyshire up to January 31 was 168,792.

There are around 240,000 people in the top four priority groups living in the county.
