NHS England issues coronavirus deaths update for Derbyshire as 665 more die in England

There have been no further recorded deaths among patients being treated for coronavirus at Chesterfield Royal Hospital in the last 24 hours, NHS England have confirmed.

It means the number of coronavirus fatalities in the town remains at 67. There are 946 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Chesterfield, according to Public Health England.

Across England a further 665 people who tested positive for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in the country to 16,272.

The highest number of new deaths were recorded in London (173), followed by the Midlands (113).

In nearby South Yorkshire, a further 17 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospitals across the county.

The death toll for England and the UK is expected to be much higher than official figures as deaths in care homes and elsewhere in the community are not included in the daily updates.
