More deaths confirmed from Covid-19 at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, latest figures reveal

A total of 91 people have now died at Chesterfield Royal after contracting Covid-19, the latest figures have revealed.

Recorded deaths released by NHS England show that eleven more people have died while in the care of the trust

The figures show that there were four deaths on both May 4 and 5, one on May 3 and two on May 2, following people being diagnosed with the condition.

No deaths were recorded yesterday (May 6).

This brings the number of deaths in England to 22,423 since the first cases were diagnosed in March.

Elsewhere locally, 225 people have now died at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust- which runs the Northern General Hospital and Royal Hallamshire Hospital in the city.

Of the recent deaths, the vast majority were in the 80-plus age group, with the 60-79 age bracket still seeing a high number of casualties, and more than 40 deaths were recorded around the Midlands region yesterday.

Across the United Kingdom there have now been more than 30,000 confirmed casualties in hospitals, with separate figures released for carehomes showing thousands more.

In England there are now more than 200,000 confirmed cases, making it the highest in Europe - topping Italy at 29,684. Elsewhere, France has seen 25,809 deaths, Germany 7,277, Spain 26,070, Belgium 8,415 and 5,288 in the Netherlands.

Elsewhere in the world, 74,817 people have died after contracting coronavirus in the USA, and 4,232 in Canada.
