From Friday (July 24) face coverings will be mandatory in all shops and supermarkets, as the new laws aim to limit the spread of coronavirus as lockdown measures are further eased.

In Meadowhall, this means face coverings will be required in every store, and shoppers are being encouraged to take further precautions in the main shopping centre areas, too.

A spokesperson for Meadowhall said: “Wearing face coverings will be compulsory by law in all shops and supermarkets from Friday 24th July. In line with this government guidance, we are also advising all visitors to wear a face covering within our centre too, where possible.

"We understand that there are some people who are exempt from wearing face coverings, and our team will of course be mindful and respectful of this.

"We're all in this together and we'd like to thank our visitors in advance for their support in helping to keep everybody safe."

As of July 24, you must have your nose and mouth covered when you go shopping or risk a £100 fine - reduced to £50 if it is paid within 14 days.

Face coverings are not the same as face masks. Coverings can be made from scarves, bandanas or other fabric items, as long as they cover the mouth and nose.

There are a few exceptions to the new rules - children under 11 and people with certain disabilities and breathing conditions will be exempt.
