There were 676 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed across the UK yesterday, Wednesday, March 18, bringing the total to 2,626.

With routine testing no longer taking place, as people with symptoms are told to self-isolate, the figures are only a guide and the true number is expected to be much higher but Public Health England continues to publish a daily regional breakdown.

Derbyshire’s tally is one of the highest outside London and the south east, though it is lower than the 36 confirmed cases in neighbouring Sheffield.

Nationally, Hampshire has the most confirmed cases, at 77, followed by the London borough of Southwark, with 70.

London has easily the most cases of any UK city, with 25 in Birmingham, 22 in Wolverhampton, 18 in Manchester and 12 each in Leeds, Liverpool and Bristol.
