Good weather forecast for Derbyshire no excuse to break coronavirus social distancing rules

Restrictions state that everybody must stay at home where possible, and only leave if they have a "reasonable excuse", such as exercise or shopping for basic necessities.

The health secretary Matt Hancock has warned that the lockdown conditions could become more stringent if people abuse the current rules.

He has threatened to ban exercise outside the home if people continue to ignore coronavirus social distancing rules.

The warning comes after reports of groups of people gathering in parks during sunny weather this weekend.

Speaking on the Andrew Marr show today, he said: “If you don't want us to take the step to ban exercise of all forms outside the home, you have got to follow the rules.”

He said the Government was prepared to “take action” if required to control the virus.

The health secretary said the vast majority were sticking to the guidelines, adding: "Let's not have a minority spoil it for everybody."

He said the timing of restrictions being lifted would depend on how people behave, adding that "the more people stay at stay at home the less the virus will spread".

Asked whether sunbathing in public spaces was against the law, he said: “Sunbathing is against the rules that have been set out for important public health reasons.”

Mr Hancock refused to be drawn on how long the UK would remain in lockdown, but said if people follow the rules ‘we will be able to make some progress’.

The Health Secretary dismissed reports that he and Chancellor Rishi Sunak have different opinions about when to lift the measures.

“We're working very closely together,” he said.

Under lockdown rules people can only leave home for food, medical appointments or supplies, exercise once a day and for essential travel to work.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit who raised concerns abut people visiting the Peak District last week tweeted today:

“Keeping positive today. Without doubt some leisure riders/drivers out but no where near the volume seen previously. Advice given to a few groups of motorcyclists including some from Barnsley sent packing from the #HighPeak.”

Tonight it will become cloudy and windy, with a band of rain making erratic progress eastwards through the early hours. Becoming clearer and colder in its wake. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

On Monday early rain should soon clear east to leave sunny spells but also isolated showers. Winds should ease, and while cooler than Sunday, temperatures should remain slightly above average. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

The outlook for Tuesday to Thursday is mainly fine, with a good deal of bright and sunny weather, with Wednesday perhaps on the cloudier side. Chilly by night, but becoming very warm by day.
