Derbyshire parish council's praise and support for teacher's efforts to provide equipment for NHS staff

A Derbyshire parish council has praised a local teacher who has ‘united the village’ in her efforts to provide essential equipment for hospitals in the county.

Tansley Parish Council is calling on residents for donations of items which can be used by the NHS, and is asking people to volunteer to sow and for cash donations.

The authority has donated £100 to the For the Love of Scrubs group, which is focusing on providing essential equipment to hospitals and care homes in the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District, and has praised resident Sallie Bartlett-Iles, who has eplained to councillors the work she is doing with the group.

Sallie, who teaches at the John Flamsteed Community School, near Ripley, has, along with colleagues, been involved in producing 1,400 visors for NHS workers.

And the community sewing group is also involved in hand-producing scrubs for key workers, with orders already taken by Whitworth Hospital and Chesterfield Royal, which has ordered 160 medical scrubs.

The group is calling on donations of:

· Pillow cases – to be used as wash bags for scrubs;

· Sheets – to be used for wash bags, head bands and also scrubs, depending on quality;

· Buttons – approximately. 2cm in diameter, to use on face masks;

· Cord/Cotton tape – for bags and trousers.

A spokesman for the council said that “most of our ladies in the village” had been brought together by Sallie and her efforts.
