With difficult weeks and months ahead, solidarity has rarely been more important. Already we have seen huge numbers of volunteers step up to bolster crucial services, ensure support reaches the most vulnerable and isolated, and keep each other’s spirits up as much as possible.

Businesses have thrown themselves into new activity, neighbourhoods have formed aid networks, and councillors are doing all they can to keep essential services running – while NHS, care workers, cleaners and shelf stackers are giving daily reminders of why they deserve our gratitude.
