Coronavirus death toll rises again in Chesterfield as grim milestone nears

A further two coronavirus-related deaths have been confirmed in Chesterfield in the last 48 hours, official data shows.

Figures from NHS England reveal one death was recorded at Chesterfield Royal Hospital on both Monday (7 December) and Tuesday (8 December).

It brings the Covid-19 death toll at the hospital to 193 since the pandemic hit.

Nationally, a further 325 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 42,904.

The patients were aged between 42 and 101 years old. All except 12 – aged 56 to 93 years old - had known underlying health conditions.

Their families have been informed.

As of Monday, 29 people were being treated at Chesterfield Royal Hospital for Covid-19, including nine patients in intensive care.

There were 136 cases per 100,000 people in Chesterfield in the seven days to 3 December - the latest date for which reliable data is available. The average area in England had 126.
