Coronavirus: 40 cases now confirmed in Derbyshire

The number of coronavirus cases in Derbyshire has increased by 12 in one day, bringing the total number confirmed to 40 as of today (March 19).

The information, released by Public Health England, comes after the announcement that 643 new cases have been confirmed in the country, bringing the UK total to 3,269, and 144 deaths.

Due to a change in the way Public Health reports the cases, Derbyshire County Council is no loner publishing figures at district and borough council level, so it is not known where the cases are.

With routine testing no longer taking place, as people with symptoms are told to self-isolate, the figures are only a guide and the true number is expected to be much higher but Public Health England continues to publish a daily regional breakdown.

Derbyshire’s tally is one of the highest outside London and the south east, and is on par with the 40 confirmed cases in neighbouring Sheffield
