Chesterfield hospital's Covid-19 fatalities increase as another patient loses their life to the virus

Another patient who tested positive for coronavirus has died while being treated by Chesterfield Royal Hospital, the day after the UK officially surpassed 100,000 virus-related fatalities.

Latest daily statistics reveal that one more person who contracted Covid-19 has now died while being cared for by Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The most recent patient fatality at the hospital in Chesterfield has increased the trust’s official total coronavirus fatalities up to 287, according to today’s figures from NHS England.

Across England, a further 973 deaths were recorded in the country’s hospitals in the 24 hours to 4pm on Tuesday, January 26 – bringing the total number of fatalities across the country’s healthcare facilities up to 68,894.

It comes after the UK officially surpassed over 100,000 coronavirus deaths since the pandemic first hit, yesterday (January 26).

Of the 973 most recently recorded deaths, according to the latest NHS England data, patients were aged between 29 and 103 and all except 50 people – aged between 32 and 98 – had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths took place between November 18 and January 26, with the majority being on or after January 21.

NHS England’s most recent data out today (January 27) represents the deaths of hospital patients who had tested positive for Covid-19 in the previous 28 days and whose fatalities were recorded in the latest reporting period.

However there were also 48 other deaths reported where patients had no positive coronavirus test result.

A total of 137 patients across all settings in Chesterfield have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 up to Wednesday, January 27, according to Government health data.

The number of virus related fatalities in all settings in Chesterfield equates to 130.6 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began last year, with the highest daily total being five deaths on January 14, 2021.

Separate data from the Office for National Statistics shows that there have been a total of 127 deaths recorded in Chesterfield where the death certificate mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes, registered up to January 15 of this year.
