Chesterfield hospital Covid-19 death toll increases as nine more patients lose their lives

Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust verified that an additional nine people have died after contracting the virus, based on the latest daily statistics (January 16).

The most recent data from NHS England shows a further 631 patients died from Covid-19 in hospitals across the country in the 24 hours to 4pm on January 16 – of which nine deaths were in the Chesterfield Royal Hospital Trust.

Overall, the trust which has had a total of 262 fatalities since the pandemic first hit early last year.

The country’s latest hospital fatalities took place between November 5 and January 16 and a total of three patients that lost their lives were aged between 20 to 39-years-old – while 351 people were aged either 80 and older.

The most recent hospital data shows the number of hospital patients who died after contracting Covid-19 in the previous 28 days and whose fatalities were documented in the latest reporting period.

NHS England and NHS Improvement have also reported the number of patients that lost their lives where there was no positive coronavirus test result, but the virus is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death in the death certification process.

There were 36 more people who died without a positive Covid-19 test, but had coronavirus reported as a direct or underlying cause of their death in the most recent reporting period.

Latest data from the Government this afternoon reveals that a total of 118 patients across all healthcare and community settings in Chesterfield lost their lives from the virus up to January 17, within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.

The number of fatalities in Chesterfield equates to 112.5 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began, with the highest daily total being four deaths on January 14, 2021.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics also shows there have been a total of 116 deaths recorded in Chesterfield where the death certificate mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes.
