The town is currently under medium level restrictions, as part of the first tier of the new lockdown traffic light system, which subjects people to the rule of six, mixing with other households indoors and outdoors while maintaining social distancing and allows pubs and restaurants to be open.
Chesterfield will join North East Derbyshire, London, Essex, Elmbridge, Barrow in Furness, York, and Erewash in being moved into to the “high” Covid alert level from 00.01am on Saturday morning, Mr Hancock told MPs this morning.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the Commons: “The threat remains grave and serious.
"In Europe, positive cases are up 40% from one week ago, and in Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands they’ve doubled in the last fortnight.“And here, we sadly saw the highest figure for daily deaths since early June.“Let us be under no illusions about the danger posed by this virus. Coronavirus is deadly and it is now spreading exponentially in the UK.”
Chesterfield spent the first day in the ‘medium’ level lockdown after rules came into effect yesterday.

MPs in the capital have been told London will move to Tier 2 at midnight on Friday, meaning households will be banned from mixing indoors – including in pubs – from Saturday.
But a call between Greater Manchester leaders and Downing Street officials failed to reach an agreement on new restrictions for the city and there will be further meetings later today, a source said.
