With news that parts of nearby Nottinghamshire will go into Tier 3 from Friday, October 30, here is a list of what would remain open should Derbyshire be placed in the highest lockdown level.

What would have to close?

Leisure and entertainment venues such as casinos, bingo halls, betting shops and soft play areas would all be forced to close in Derbyshire should the area be put in Tier 3 restrictions.

Any pubs not serving ‘substantial meals’ will also be forced to close, as seen in Sheffield.

What would stay open?

According to the Gov.uk website, exercise classes and organised sport can still take place outdoors in groups of no more than six.

However, social distancing must still be adhered to.

Restaurants, and pubs serving ‘substantial meals’, are also allowed to remain open, but they all must adhere to the compulsary 10pm curfew and table service only rules.

Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick went into detail to describe what counts as ‘substantial’ on LBC.

He said: “The test in law is that a substantial meal is the sort of meal that you would expect to have as a midday meal or an evening meal.

“It would be like a main course, rather than, say, a packet of crisps or a plate of chips.”

Hairdressers and beauty salons, along with non-essential shops (such as clothes and shoe stores), schools and universities are allowed to remain open in Tier 3.

Places of worship will also remain open.

Rules for opening public buildings and arts venues is down to the local authority.

What about gyms?

According to the Department of Health, whether gyms can remain open is "based on local evidence".

In the Sheffield City Region, which is currently in Tier 3 restrictions, gym’s have remained open but classes have been stopped.

In Liverpool, the local authority made the decision to close gyms in Tier 3.
