The 9 best performing secondary schools in Derbyshire according to government figures

These are the best performing secondary schools in Derbyshire, excluding Derby, according to government data.

Performance for each school is assessed on their ‘Progress 8’ score, the measure used to see how much progress children make between the end of primary school and the end of secondary school.

The pupils’ attainment is based on their best eight subjects at GCSE level – including english and maths which are given double weighting to reflect their importance – and the progress made from the end of Year 6, when the Key Stage 2 SATs are taken.

A school’s Progress 8 score is usually between -1 and +1, the latter meaning that pupils in that school achieve one grade higher in each qualification than other similar pupils nationally at the end of Key Stage 2.

Schools with a Progress 8 score of below -0.5 are not achieving the minimum standard expected by the Government while a score of +0.5 of above shows that pupils in that school are making ‘well above’ the expected level of progress.

The latest figures are from a Department for Education (DfE) list published in 2019, as assessments have since been on hold due to the pandemic.
