A-level delight at Dronfield school – amid some ‘unusual outcomes’

The percentage of A*-A increased to 28.7 per cent, a three-year high, while more than 85 per cent achieved A*-C, which is significantly above the national average of 78 per cent.

According to the school, however, there have been some ‘unusual outcomes’ which will be appealed against over the coming weeks – in line with the national picture.

Headteacher Martyn Cooper said “I’m delighted for students and their families.

“It is a joy to see young people realising their dreams, making phone calls to family members and planning the next steps of their journey.

“We are particularly pleased that our initial analysis shows that we are in the top 25 per cent of schools in the country in terms of progress data for the three-year average – this shows that our students work hard and make excellent progress regardless of their starting point.”

Marc Howell, director of sixth form, said: “Our students have worked incredibly hard this year and deserve these brilliant outcomes.

“We have seen students successfully taking up places at competitive institutions and destinations including four places at Oxbridge and three who are going to study medicine.

“I’m incredibly pleased to see that universities are being flexible in their admissions this year and where students are unhappy with their grades we are supporting them with advice and guidance on their next steps.

“Well done to our class of 2020 – we are incredibly proud of them all.”
