Parents at a Chesterfield school have been asked to keep their children at home if possible as fears over the coronavirus pandemic grow.

The William Rhodes Primary and Nursery School in Boythorpe asked parents this morning to keep their children at home if at all possible.

Families unable to care for their children at home were still able to take the youngsters to school but some members of staff have been sent home due to being in at risk groups.

The school has stressed that it is not ‘closed’.

A member of staff said: “We are not closed. We are saying to parents that if they are able to look after their children at home we would ask them to do that due to social distancing.

“We are still offering a service at school but some staff are staying at home due to being vulnerable or extremely vulnerable.”
