Chesterfield school announces decision to join academy trust

A Chesterfield school has announced its plans to join an academy trust in a bid to improve an '˜inadequate' Oftsed rating.

In a letter to parents, acting headteacher of Brookfield Community School, Richard Cronin, said the school would join the Redhill Academy Trust following ‘extensive discussions’ with education chiefs.

It comes after the school was found to be ‘inadequate’ with ‘serious weaknesses’ in its latest Ofsted rating.

The letter reads: “I would like to inform you that following extensive discussions between the Regional Schools Commissioner, the independent Headteachers’ Panel, the National Schools Commissioner and Lord Agnew (Under Secretary of State for Schools), the decision has been taken for Brookfield Community School to join Redhill Academy Trust.

“This morning, I met with Mr A Burns, CEO and Director of Education for the Redhill Academy Trust; the discussions were very positive and focused on school improvement.

“Mr Burns stated that he is “very much looking forward to working together with Brookfield Community School on its school improvement journey.”

Mr Cronin added there would be an extraordinary parents evening on Monday, December 3 for any parents who had questions about the move.
