The visor designs will enable NHS workers to protect their faces and the ear savers allow the elasticated masks that they currently use to attach at the back of their heads, thus saving their ears from becoming sore through prolonged use.

Miss Whapplington, who only joined the school in April, has created the visors and ear savers using materials from the school, producing all of the items in just one week.

The 390 visors and 490 ear savers have been donated to Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Donations have also been made to Ashgate Hospice, Haddon House Care Home, Vale Care Home, Millfield Care Home, Clay Cross Medical Centre, Lifetime Home Care, Emmett Carr Surgery and King’s Mill Hospital.

Head teacher Matt Hall said: “As a school we saw an opportunity to play our part in supporting the NHS to help fight against this terrible virus.

“The effort and commitment of our technology teacher Miss Whapplington, who came up with the idea of making the PPE masks, must be commended, alongside the other members of staff at the school who made this happen.
