Tesco tells customers to return popular Christmas food item over illness fears

Supermarket giant Tesco has issued an urgent recall on its popular Christmas chocolate following a packaging mix-up.

Tesco said its batch of Finest Festive Belgian Dark Chocolate Brazil Nuts has been incorrectly packed with Tesco Finest Festive Fruit and Nut Selection that contains sulphur dioxide which is not mentioned on the label.

UPDATE: This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites.

In a statement, it said: "Tesco is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

"The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers, which explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product.

"If you have bought the above incorrectly packed product and have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites, do not eat it."

The details of the affected product are as followed: Pack size (225g), batch code (L0075004) with an expiry date of May 2021.

Those who have bought the product are urged to return it to the store where it was bought or alternatively, contact Tesco's Customer Helpline on 0800 505 555 for a full refund without returning the product to the store.
