Wetherspoon’s initiative – called Stay Out to Help Out – will reduce the cost of selected menu items from Monday to Wednesday every week from now until November 11.

The chain claims customers will pay less for some of the meals and drinks than they would for similar offerings from McDonald’s and Domino’s Pizza.

Prices vary between Wetherspoon’s branches – but an analysis by The Sun found Stay Out to Help Out would cut prices at the pubs by up to 48 per cent.

A traditional breakfast – consisting of a fried egg, two rashers of bacon, two hash browns, baked beans, sausage, tomato and toast – will cost £2.99 and a small breakfast £2.49.

Coffee or tea, with free refills, will be available for 99p and all soft drinks will cost 99p. Discounts do not apply to alcoholic drinks.

Tim Martin, chairman and founder of JD Wetherspoon, said Eat Out to Help Out was ‘extremely popular’ and ‘a great boost to the hospitality industry’.

The Government’s policy ran from August 3 to 31 and gave diners 50 per cent off their bills for food and soft drinks, capped at £10 per person, at participating pubs, cafés and restaurants. Venues recouped the discounted money from HMRC. The most recent figures showed 64 million meals had been claimed for nationally.
