After being closed for the last month because of national lockdown restrictions, the charity’s 14 shops will once again be able to welcome customers from Wednesday, December 2.

The hospice, which provides specialist end-of-life care to patients across north Derbyshire, has lost out on an estimated £2.4 million in revenue due to shop closures and postponed or cancelled fundraising events during the pandemic.

"Due to the pandemic, we have seen a dramatic drop in our fundraising activity and consequently we are urging the local community to shop local this year.

“Our shops are stocked through the kindness and generosity of the public and that is why we never take a single donation for granted.

"We are always looking for good quality donations, so if you are planning a clear-out before Christmas then please remember Ashgate.

“We would also like to say a special thank you to our customers who continued to shop with us online, your support makes a huge difference and ensures we can continue caring for the thousands of families across the region who are living with a life-limiting illness.”

Shops are fully stocked with a range of new and donated gifts for Christmas, alongside a selection of Ashgate Hospicecare Christmas cards.

Safety measures include the installation of Perspex screens at till points, changing shop layouts to enable social distancing and asking customers to pay via card or contactless methods where possible.

The charity will also reopen its coffee shop at the Hasland site for takeaway only. Its coffee shops in Clowne and Shirebrook will remain closed.
