He wrote to staff: “We regret to inform you that the organisation is in the position of having to consider implementing a redundancy programme as a result of the effects of the recent pandemic on the business.

"At this early stage, we anticipate that it will be necessary to make all employees redundant in the business.

"Any redundancy payments made will be the legal minimum and we envisage this process to take approximately two weeks.

"To meet our obligations as part of this process we are actively exploring suitable alternatives.

"As part of the consultation procedure, we wish to fully explore with employees whether there are options available other than redundancy in order to fulfil the company’s business needs.

"If you have any viable suggestions or proposals to put forward, please contact myself Jim McGregor.”

Employees facing redundancy were asked to attend a group consultation meeting with senior management last Thursday to discuss the ‘reasons for the proposed redundancies’ and whether there were any further steps that could be taken to minimise job losses.

Bedford and Havenhand Shopfitting Limited were contacted for comment.
