Yarn bombing New Square for Chesterfield Market Festival

Visitors to the Chesterfield Market Festival should find New Square looking a bit brighter than normal.

Keen knitters have been busy with their needles creating dozens of brightly coloured squares which have been used to yarn bomb the area.

Lamp-posts, seats and even a tree trunk have been covered in the knitting after Chesterfield artist Charlotte Bolton put out an appeal in the Derbyshire Times for contributions.

She said: “I had such an amazing response because of that and had an unreal amount of donations!”

The Market Festival, which is currently underway and running until November 1, offers ghost walks and spire tours, workshops and festivals celebrating beer, food and folk.

Competitions will include spooky cake, art and yarn bombing selfie.
