TV star ready for Mansfield panto

In the third of a series of ‘60 Seconds With’ features, we hear from Philip Martin Brown, who will play Abanazar in Aladdin at Mansfield Palace Theatre, from November 28 to January 3.

Philip is a well-known and much-loved figure on the British TV screen.

Born in Manchester, he starred in nine series of Waterloo Road for the BBC, playing the role of grumpy Grantly Budgen.

Philip lives in Kent with his wife Pip.

They have two children: Rupert (25) and Jodie (21). His hobbies include painting and playing the piano.

Here Philip tells us a bit about coming to Mansfield for panto this year, to play the ‘baddie’ Abanazar…

Yes.

Tell us about the character you will be playing…

Abanazar has no redeeming features – he is pure evil!

What fun fact might people not know about you? (Such as your ‘party trick’ or unusual pet…)

I can make helicopter noises with my mouth!

What would be your dream theatre role? Who would you love to work alongside?

The title role in the Scottish Play.

Paul McCartney is the biggest name dropper I know!

My wife keeps accusing me of making things up… I wouldn’t mind, but I’m not even married!

Where will you be spending Christmas Day this year? Who with?

I’ll be spending Christmas Day with my family in a cottage in Mansfield.

What are you most looking forward to about panto/Christmas/spending time in Mansfield?

The roar of the grease paint and the smell of the crowd!

What is your message to anyone who hasn’t bought tickets to Aladdin yet?!

Get one while you still can!

The theatre is urging customers who prefer certain performances and seats to book as soon as they can with more than 75 per cent of tickets already sold.
