Trumpeter's note of support for church

A professional trumpeter will be raising brass for a north Derbyshire church.

John Barker performs a solo concert in St Bartholomew’s Church, Clay Cross, on Saturday, May 14, at 7.30pm.

Darley Dale-based John is well known and popular for his easy, relaxing style of trumpet playing.

He travels all over the UK, doing 60,000 miles a year, and has released 11 solo CDs with the 12th on its way.

John has recently played on The Good Old Days show from Leeds City Varieties Theatre and Bernie Clifton’s Family Laughter Show from the North Pier Theatre in Blackpool.

May marks the start of a very busy summer for John, including 23 dates at Warners, Holme Lacy House in Hereford, gigs in Great Yarmouth, Essex and Henley-on-Thames

He has been a performing musician professionally for 31 years, makes his own backing tracks and can occasionally be seen performing on a Monday in Vicar Lane Shopping Centre in Chesterfield.
