Russian double bill at the RCH

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing a pair of contrasting richly symphonies on Friday, February 20, from 7.30pm.

The performance is at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham and will be conducted by the acclaimed Vasily Petrenko.

The first of the works is Tchaikovsky’s Second Symphony (‘The Little Russian’) a substantial work containing plenty of orchestral fireworks from the composer and incorporating some Ukrainian folk tunes.

The second work is Shostakovich’s gripping Tenth Symphony, written in the immediate aftermath of Stalin’s death and detailing what life was like for the composer and millions of others under that reign of terror.

It ends in defiant and glorious style in an exuberant finale.
