Chesterfield Folk Club is living up to its commitment to bring people the best in folk, blues, roots, acoustic and contemporary music.

Sunjay Brayne, award-winning singer and superb guitarist, headlined at the Library Theatre. The venue was ideal for his infectious blend of songs and his mature-beyond-his-years voice.

There were beautiful renditions of classics like James Taylor’s Close Your Eyes’ and Mark Knopfler’s ‘Sailing To Philadelphia’ and strong unaccompanied singing on the tongue-in-cheek ‘A Folk Singer Earns Every Dime’.

Sunjay’s dazzling guitar skills were evident throughout but especially on the propulsive ‘Love You Like A Man’ which he said his mother hates.

Eddy Morton, stepping in at the last minute for the ill Charlie Barker, provided admirable and equally accomplished support and later joined Sunjay for an encore of ‘Going Down The Road’ which featured recently on Radio 2.

The concert overran and Sunjay left with loud, sustained and well-deserved applause. The next concert on November 14 is a favourite of the club’s Anthony John Clarke. On this visit though he is accompanied by the no less that Dave Pegg of Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull fame. Expect a packed house.
