Review: Check in for Hasland Theatre Company’s production of Hotel Paradiso

Few destinations for a lust-filled tryst are more seedy than the haunted hotel at the centre of a comedy.

Crazy characters check in for a night of passion or relaxation and end up fleeing “ghosts” and gendarmes in this week’s offering from Hasland Theatre Company.

The French farce Hotel Paradiso has been adapted for an English audience by the company’s new director Christoper Selbie.

Shades of The Two Ronnies’ four candles sketch feature in an hilarious scene where Rob Dean plays hotel manager.

John Belli excels in the lead role as hen-pecked spouse whose plans for a naughty night in a hotel with his best friend’s wife are thwarted at every turn.

Delightful characteristions from Olivia Brooks playing the love interest, Dave Banks as her ghost-hunting hubby, Gary Keeling as barrister with a speech impediment and Gill Ashton as the main man’s strident wife make this production well worth checking into.
