Puppet festival is back in town!

The puppets are back in town next month when the Buxton Puppet Festival returns to Buxton Opera House.

The co-production by Buxton Opera House and Funny Wonders will see the event span seven days, from Sunday August 3 through until Saturday August 9.

As usual there’s a host of colourful workshops and performances to look forward to in numerous locations around the town.

Performances in Pavilion Arts Centre this year include Aladdin (Sunday August 3); a large-scale shadow puppet show about a poor street boy who falls hopelessly in love with a Royal Princess.

Or why not join Miss Amelia Buttersnap, an expert on fairies who embarks on a journey to photograph one (A Real Fairy Story, Tuesday August 5, 2pm & 4pm)

Other puppet shows include The Three Billy Pigs (Thursday August 7 at 2pm) a light-hearted storytelling with live music and a little bit of eco awareness.

Outdoor puppet shows are also incorporated into the festival with A Melange of Marvellous & Magical Monsters on the Pavilion Gardens Bandstand, with creations from Buxton Infant School Puppet Club (Friday August 8 at 3.30pm).

As always there are free puppet shows to enjoy on the Opera House forecourt.

There will also be workshops for children to get artistic including Stories in Shadow and Sand (multimedia and shadow puppetry)on Monday August 4 at 10am, and two workshops by puppeteer Keith Barns.
