Piva entertain Haddon Hall audience with 16th century music

Early music does not come more authentic, or more fun, than Piva playing Tudor tunes on period instruments in front of a roaring log fire in the Banqueting Hall at Haddon.

The music was lively and tuneful and played with real panache by musicians who were clearly enjoying themselves. Each of the five performers played a number of instruments and three of them actually make them. The instruments look truly beautiful: shawms, crumhorns, curtails, recorders and rauschfeifen, all made from finely grained English wood, as well as hurdy-gurdies and English bagpipes. They also sound great, with such accomplished musicians playing music from court and country. The music was explained with lots of laughs and they even got the audience singing rounds, complete with hand movements.

This was truly ‘the music of the house’ and the Haddon audience, drinks in hand, really entered into the spirit of sixteenth century folk music. Piva would sound great in any setting but at Haddon Hall they were wonderful.
