The big summer of cycling is on its way to the Peak District.

One of the early events is the Bamford Mountain Biking Weekend which runs from June 14 to 15.

The weekend starts with a mountain bike orienteering event, round the green lanes and bridleways of the High Peak, a mecca for mountain bikers.

This is followed in the afternoon by a range of activities, equipment stalls and refreshments on Bamford Recreation Ground.

In the evening there will be a series of mountain bike films in Bamford Institute, part of the Cycle to the Cinema series.

On Sunday there are led rides starting from The Anglers Rest, the pub the local community bought last year. The Anglers Rest has benefited from the Peak District cycle infrastructure grants to make it one of the few pubs to have bike racks and even fewer to have a bike tool station - both of which will be installed in the next few weeks.

Highlights in the summer of cycling in the Peak District include l’Eroica Britannia, held for the first time on British soil, and the Tour de France.
