Marlene Dietrich inspires new play heading for Buxton’s Pavilion Arts Centre

The Madonna of her time, she was known for reinventing herself throughout her career both professionally and characteristically. In fact Marlene Dietrich was Madonna’s biggest inspiration and most of her iconic 80s costumes are direct copies from her wardrobe!

Dietrich is the subject of a new play coming to Buxton’s Pavilion Arts Centre on May 29.

Using various archive material from the Dietrich Estate, letters and personal objects, Dietrich Letters – a tribute to Marlene Dietrich is set to transport audiences to key moments throughout the stars life; charting her rise to fame and meteoric career which included Berlin vaudeville, Hollywood stardom, and smoky cabaret clubs filled with adoring fans.

Together with a seven-piece jazz band under the direction of Rob Barron (Ronnie Scott’s All Stars), the talented and beautiful actress Marina Laslo reproduces Marlene’s hits note for note, with the actress’ low and sultry voice expertly matched to the star’s.
