West End hit comedy Handbagged speculates on what two of the most powerful women in the world would have talked about behind closed doors.

They were both born in the same year - one growing up to become Queen of England, the other taking on the mantle of the country’s first female Prime Minister.

Expect handbags at dawn and tea at four when Liz and Maggie meet behind the palace doors.

But when the stiff upper lip softens and the gloves come off, which one has the upper hand?

Handbagged enjoyed a sell-out success at the Tricycle Theatre where it premiered in 2014 and earned the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre. The production transferred to London’s West End and was nominated for Best New Comedy 2015 at the Olivier Awards.

Next week it sets out on a nationwide tour, with Susie Blake in the role of the Queen. Susie’s TV credits include The Darling Buds of May, Coronation Street and Wild At Heart.

The Lowry in Salford hosts Handbagged from September 15 to 19.

Performances at 7.30pm with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm.
