For those who enjoy watching the dexterity and sophistication of classically trained guitarists, Royal Northern College of Music protégés James Girling and Bradley Johnson are worth paying a visit. Featuring evocative pieces including Sonatina Canonica by Mario Tedesco, Nexus Guitar Duo are set to cook up a musical feast to enjoy over lunch on Thursday, May 21, at 1pm.

The following month (Saturday 6 June at 7.30pm), 70s folk fans can hear the legendary Bridget St John alongside popular guitarist and songwriter Michael Chapman. Many a student room in the Seventies was filled by Bridget’s albums (released on John Peel’s Dandelion label from 1969-72). Michael Chapman, a masterful finger-picking guitarist and great bluesy singer first became known on the London and Cornish folk circuits in 1967. Recent collaborations with Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and the American ‘primitive school’ of guitar players has encouraged a new generation of fans in the UK, USA and Europe.

‘Mozart of Guitar’ Pierre Bensusan will perform at the Arts Centre on June 13 at 7.30pm as part of an exclusive tour of the UK. Over the past 40 years the finger-style acoustic guitarist has taken his unique blend of world, Celtic, jazz and folk inspired music to all parts of the globe. In 2014 Pierre’s live album Encore won an Independent Music Award, further cementing him as one of the great guitar players of the 21st century.

Tickets are £7 and £10 for Nexus Guitar Duo, £14 for Michael Chapman and Bridget St John and £15 for Pierre Bensusan. Contact 0845 127 2190 or www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
