Former New Mills pub serves up toe-tapping folk music

An evening of toe-tapping folk music from around the world is being served up as part of New Mills ArtsFEST 2014.

On the menu will be an exciting and varied list of artists who will perform during a Folk Night at The Torrs on Saturday May 31, from 6pm onwards, as part of the second weekend of the town’s bumper arts extravaganza.

Styles will vary from Katy Galloway’s country/pop style, and the beautiful and intricate interpretations of Django Reinhardt’s music by Gypsy Jazz, through to the more traditional Irish folk of The Gally Canters, stunning folk harmonies of The Hayes Sisters and the Balkan-flavoured beats of Lazlo Baby.

Each artist will perform a 40-minute set in the main room at the former Market Street pub, which has been converted and restored to form New Mills’ newest venue.

There will also be a real-ale bar open during the performances to help the evening go with a swing, and a hot pot supper will be included in the £5 admission price.

Tickets are available from High Street Books, on High Street in New Mills, or by visiting www.newmillsarts.co.uk, where details of other festival events can be found.

These include Solid with Stardust with Dominic Berry, a hilariously fun and emotive journey of an effeminate, vegan poet growing up in the Pembrokeshire countryside aiming to make a mark on the big city.

Tickets for his performance tomorrow (Friday) at The Studios, on Union Road, from 8pm, are priced £7.50.
