Folk songstress Karine to light up Arts Centre

Folk music songstress Karine Polwart will perform songs from her new album along with some old favourites when she appears at Buxton’s Pavilion Arts Centre next week.

Karine and her two regular touring collaborators, brother Steven Polwart on guitar and vocals, and Fair Islander Inge Thomson on accordion, percussion and vocals, will entertain an audience at the Water Street venue on Thursday November 28, at 7.30pm.

With glowing reviews in for the evocative lyricism and cinematic style of her new album Traces, the Scottish singer-songwriter has been nominated for three awards at the Radio 2 Folk Awards 2013: Folk Singer of the Year, Best Album and Best Original Song.

Karine draws inspiration from folk music’s long tradition while keeping pace with changing times.

Her talent for crafting unique, enduring melodies and her gift for saying just enough without overstating her case, come together in songs with powerful, modern themes.

She has a pure and strong voice, drawing the listener towards her in the same way one might lean towards a late night fireside tale with a heady dose of humour too.
