Six of the country’s outstanding DJs will be spinning the vinyl at The Octagon as the Pavilion Gardens venue is transformed into a Northern Soul club, reminiscent of Wigan Casino, The Torch and The Twisted Wheel.

With music that made Wigan Casino famous and a large dance floor and bar until 1am, partygoers will be able to experience stomping, spinning, flipping and even giving a few backdrops, to a great mix of 100 per cent oldies, rare and not so rare Northern Soul tracks.

Phil Armstrong, from Soul Over Easy, said: “Northern Soul is not only about great music but also the dancing and that’s what makes the Octagon a great venue due to its large dance floor.

“Some of the UK’s top northern DJs have appeared at the event. They spin original vinyl and are carefully chosen for their individual record collections, as many of the Northern Soul records are rare, with some having only two or three copies available worldwide.

“We try and create the same atmosphere as back in the heydays of Northern Soul in the 70s, with a dark room, original vinyl and a great sound system.”

The line-up for the Buxton Soul Night features DJs Ian Gee (Chesterfield), Daz Dakin (Leicester), Pete Eccles (Bolton), Danny Clegg (Southport) and Des Jones (Manchester).

The Northern Soul music, dance and fashion movement emerged from the British Mod (underground rhythm and soul) scene in the late 1960s. By the early 70s it developed its signature athletic dance style, resembling disco and break dancing.
