come and join choir for bach concert

Bakewell Choral Society has issued a call for people who would like to sing in the group’s next concert.

During the first few months of 2014, the long established and highly regarded choir recruited over 30 new singers to join them for a performance of Carmina Burana.

This was an outstanding success and the society is now actively recruiting new members to come and sing Bach’s St John Passion on Saturday, March 14, at Lady Manners School, Shutts Lane, Bakewell.

The St John Passion is a sacred oratorio composed by Johann Sebastian Bach for the Good Friday Vespers service of 1724.

It is a dramatic representation of the Passion as told in the Gospel of John, constructed of dramatically presented recitatives and choruses, with commentary in reflective chorales and arias, framed by opening and final choruses, leading to a final chorale.

This concert will feature professional soloists and the Skipton Camerata Orchestra.

Bakewell Choral Society is a friendly and welcoming mixed choir of around 70 members.
