BUXTON FRINGE 2014: A look back at life of former Peak artist

A radio play being performed as part of the Buxton Festival Fringe will offer a glimpse into the nomadic and inspiring life of former Hayfield artist Harry Ousey.

What's on.

Written by Maxim Howard, ‘In Search of the New’ will be performed at Spring Bank Arts Centre in New Mills on Saturday, at 7.30pm.

The read through of the poignant play tells of Ousey’s wife Susie reflecting on her life with the Manchester-born artist as she sorts through belongings after his death in 1985 in a French hospital.

For a time after the Second World War the couple lived in a farm cottage in Hayfield, with the rolling hills of the Peak District providing inspiration for his paintings.

Tickets for the performance, which will be preceded by a Pimm’s reception and a talk by the artist’s niece Sue Astles, are available from Spring Bank Arts Centre, New Mills Bookshop and Bay Tree Books, Glossop, priced £6.

From tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday, a free exhibition on the artist, entitled ‘Harry Ousey Pops in at the Fringe’ will be held at Spring Bank Arts.
